Newsletter June 2015
TU Delft Transport Institute focusses on connecting the transport community of TU Delft. TU Delft Transport Institute is also a (largely virtual) organization within the TU Delft that supports scientists in achieving the highest scientific quality level. Furthermore we provide support for communication of research findings, collaboration in research and education and seeking funding for new research.

In the spotlight - Serge Hoogendoorn
 
TU Delft's Prof. Serge Hoogendoorn has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for five-year research into traffic theory for pedestrians and cyclists. The Advanced Grant is a grant for up to 2.5 million euros from the European Research Council for excellent, established researchers carrying out innovative and ground-breaking research.

Graduate student interviewed - Yihong Wang
 
The Transport Prize of the Data for Development Challenge of telecom provider Orange is won by a TU Delft team. Assistant Professor Dr.Gonçalo Correia, Professor Erik de Romph and master student Yihong Wang, from the Transport & Planning department of the faculty of CiTG are rewarded with their project. Reason for an interview with Yihong Wang.

Wouter Schakel awarded his PhD
 
TU Delft researcher Wouter Schakel has developed a system for detailed individual driving advice that can improve traffic flow by, for example, distributing cars better across the lanes. He has shown by means of simulations that delays in travel times can be reduced under optimum conditions by between 40 and 50%. Schakel is awarded for his PhD on Monday 18 May.
